This Grand old lady of the Cape was built in 1902, and has been at the centre of South African hospitality ever since.  The hotel was closed in February 1998 for 8 months of frantic restoration for Liz McGrath to inject the style and elegance that has become her hallmark. Upon opening The Marine in October 1998, it was as a five-star hotel.  In January 2000 the hotel was accepted into the membership of Relais and Chateaux and secured its position on the stage of world class hotels.

Three exceptionally talented interior designers worked tirelessly to ensure the highest standard of style and comfort in all the bedrooms.  The hotel has 42 individually decorated bedrooms and suites – each with private facilities.  Many have commanding views across Walker Bay or into the beautiful internal courtyards with swimming pool and garden.  

The Marine offers a Concierge and Travel Service and we would gladly arrange a number of outings for you including Beach or Vineyard Horse Rides, Golf, Sunset Cruises, White Shark Viewing, Whale Watching, Township Tours, Sea Kayaking, Game viewing, Abseiling, Wine Tastings and picnics, as well as car hire or transfers.  "Look after your body the same way you look after your most cherished possessions" - Carchele Spa at the Marine will take pleasure in taking care of you.

Dining at The Marine has had equally special attention.  Seafood at the Marine is a bright new restaurant in the modern idiom, where the only sea view will be on a plate.   The atmosphere – informal and busy but with the emphasis on fresh fish and great style.  The Pavillion on the other hand, with glorious views from the pretty internal courtyard through to Walker Bay is more traditional in feel and serves an array of the highest quality food.

SINGLES (3)

These single rooms have double beds. One offers a view of the courtyard. Bathrooms vary with one having a separate shower and the other two, a shower/bath combination.

DOUBLES (16)

These standard twin and double-bedded rooms offer the same exceptional style in décor as is found in the suites and luxury doubles. Whilst none have a sea view, a number offer a partial sea view and others include balconies of varying sizes as well as communal balconies overlooking the pool area or courtyard. All rooms are air-conditioned and seven offer separate showers in the bathrooms.SUITES (6)

Each suite has been traditionally, yet stylishly and individually decorated and they all include a large lounge area. Two suites are set on a split-level; two have balconies and one a large four poster bed with raw silk draping. Bathrooms each have a separate shower and three have twin vanity basins.

LUXURY DOUBLES (10)

Six of these rooms are sea facing whilst three opens onto a mountain facing balcony/patio overlooking the pool and the seventh is non-sea facing. Three of the sea facing rooms have balconies, two on ground floor and one on the first floor. One Luxury Double is wheelchair friendly. All the bathrooms have separate showers and the rooms are decorated in superb fabrics from florals to heavy silks.

PREMIER SUITES (8)

These suites consist of eight magnificently and individually decorated suites that have varied, but all spectacular views of the sea. The largest of these suites features a large Georgian style bay window, and is on two levels, which includes a spacious seating area downstairs with picture windows overlooking Walker Bay. Two of the Grand Suites have balconies and fireplaces with separate lounge areas, whilst others occupy a split-level and two have working fireplaces. All the bathrooms have a separate shower and three have twin vanity basins.
